Target Audience
This activity is designed for all health professionals, including physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and others who possess a general understanding of obesity assessment and treatment. Participants should have completed foundational courses on obesity, such as our "Obesity: Etiology, Prevention, and Treatment" course.
For physicians interested in obtaining obesity medicine certification through the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), this course counts towards the ABOM requirement of at least 30 hours of ABOM-designated GROUP 1 credits.
This course is available in a two-course package, which provides learners with over 60 credits, fulfilling the credit requirement to apply for the ABOM exam.
Course Overview
Gain a more complete understanding of the science, sociology, and latest clinical approaches to obesity, and equip yourself with new tools for treating patients with obesity and overweight.
This far-reaching course is designed for learners with a general knowledge of obesity assessment and treatment. The lectures cover topics such as lifestyle interventions in treating obesity, nutrition and diet, the impact of cultural context and weight stigma, weight loss and regain, the relationship between aging and metabolism, obesity during pregnancy, childhood obesity, the relationship between cancer and obesity, health insurance and obesity treatment, delivering patient-centered care, and more.

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:
- Identify behavior and lifestyle tools for weight management.
- Use effective counseling techniques to deliver patient-centered care.
- Tailor obesity care in special populations (food insecure, older adults, limited means).
- Define contributors and effects of childhood obesity.
- Discuss research on a range of eating patterns and understand their impact on weight and cardiometabolic health.
- Explain the impact of sleep on energy balance and obesity,
- Identify methods to help patients improve their sleep.
- Describe the effects of physical activity on weight loss and weight maintenance.
- Discuss the detrimental effects of weight stigma on psychological and physical health.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 37.25 medical knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity, with individual assessments of the participant and feedback to the participant, enables the participant to earn 37.25 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.
