Target Audience
This activity is intended for all health professionals: physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and more who have a general knowledge of obesity assessment and treatment and have taken courses in the fundamentals of obesity, such as our "Obesity: Etiology, Prevention, and Treatment" course.
For physicians interested in obtaining obesity medicine certification through the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), this course counts towards the ABOM requirement of at least 30 hours of live CME credit on the topic of obesity from a partner organization.
Course Overview
Obesity: Additional Topics for Advanced Study is designed for learners with a general knowledge of obesity assessment and treatment who have studied the fundamentals of obesity in courses such as our “Obesity: Etiology, Prevention, and Treatment." Gain a more complete understanding of the science, sociology, and latest clinical approaches to obesity and equip yourself with new tools for treating patients with obesity and overweight.
The lectures will cover topics such as sleep, stress, and obesity, lifestyle interventions in treating obesity, nutrition and diet, obesity in cultural context, weight loss and regain, the relationship between aging and metabolism, obesity during pregnancy, childhood obesity, the relationship between cancer and obesity, health insurance and obesity treatment, delivering patient-centered care, and more.

- Recognize the complex variety and functions of adipose tissue, the environment's effects on adipose tissue, and the intricacies of brown-adipose-tissue activation.

- List contributors to childhood obesity, examine its immediate and long-term health effects, and discover a broad range of treatment approaches.
